The Diocese of Fort Worth, Texas includes 90 Parishes, 1 Mission, and 19 schools. It stretches from Quanah, Texas just Northwest of Wichita Falls in the West and extends to Penelope, Texas in the Southeast. Its largest metropolitan areas are Fort Worth, Arlington, Denton, and Wichita Falls. It has approximately 914,556 Catholics in the Diocese, including 108 Priests, 86 Deacons, and 77 Sisters. The principal duty of all employees is to assist in the mission of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth, Texas.


General Position Summary
: Director of Youth Ministry is responsible for the active development of a catechumenal approach to evangelization and catechesis for 7th-12th grade students. This strategic process includes the coordination, supervision, and implementation of relevant and engaging content to transform the hearts of youth and root them into the Church. The Director will be an advocate for the youth and their families to the staff, the parish family, and the community.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Develops and implements sound catechetical curriculums in the area of evangelization, catechesis, doctrine, liturgy, sacraments, moral life and prayer so as to foster discipleship in Christ. Seeks to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the faith community. Creates original content catered to the needs of the parish
    • Promotes programs in a way that continually draws new youth to engage and participate.
    • Reviews and complies with the catechetical/sacramental guidelines set forth by the pastor and the Diocesan Bishop (communicated through the Diocesan Department of Evangelization and Catechesis).
    • Develops and directs the confirmation program for eligible teens.
    • Plans and oversees all aspects of retreats, trips, and activities for SVDP Youth.
    • Participates in Diocesan supported programs for Youth. Supports families in their role of faith development.
  • Coordinates, recruits, screens, motivates and equips volunteer leaders/core teams through a comprehensive formation process for both teen and adult leaders in the areas of evangelization and catechesis.
    • Encourages all catechists to life-long formation by promoting approved Diocesan Catechist Formation courses.
    • Lead the core team and staff in planning processes, coordinating events and programs
  • Facilitates the planning, implementation and evaluation of department goals. Participates in the budget process to ensure the goals of the program are in line with the budget.
  • Effectively provides a strong system of communication to the teens, families, parish, and community regarding activities and events, using Parish tools (Bulletin, Facebook, Flocknote, website, eBlast, newsletter, etc). Uses marketing and design efforts to target and engage students through social media (Instagram, Tiktok, etc.). Represents the needs of the youth and their families to the pastor, the staff and the community.
  • Develops and maintains records and database(s) for department and sacramental recordkeeping.
  • Attends staff meetings and Diocesan meetings/trainings as required.


Typical Decisions and/or Recommendations Made in This Position:

  • Day-to-day management and decision for budgeted funds available to the financial requests received.
  • Recommend plans and future direction to meet the needs of the department programs.


Supervision Given and/or Received:

  • Supervised by the Pastor.
  • Work with the Business Manager on the financial process and budget.


Internal Contacts:

  • Will work with supervisor to discuss needs of the programs under his/her day-to-day leadership.
  • Works in tandem with the rest of formation department to create a clear path of discipleship.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with staff and parish ministry leaders.


External Contacts:

  • Develops and maintains working relationships with schools, other Diocesan Youth Ministry departments and the Diocesan Formation Office.


Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • This position works in a typical office environment, on stage in front of youth and other locations off site, but is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding youth and family needs, tight deadlines and heavy workloads.


Travel Requirements:

  • Limited, 1-3 times per year


Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Practicing Catholic, faithful to the Magisterium and in good standing with the Catholic Church.
  • Successful completion of the Diocesan Safe Environment process.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Religious Studies or Youth Ministry; Master’s Degree preferred


Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Skilled at Public speaking
  • Skilled at strategic planning
  • Intermediate proficiency with Excel, Word, Publisher
  • Competence with Pro Presenter, Canva, Audio/Video Control and equipment
  • Licensing and Copyright awareness
